Ellanora Slusser
Ellanora Slusser is a high school Fast Track Academy student, graduating with an associate degree in general studies today.
She is exceptional in so many ways, graduating from our Youth Leadership Development Program earlier this week. She is also a competitive volleyball, and track and field athlete, a member and leader in numerous clubs and organizations, has twice traveled abroad with Wallace State groups, and is a regular volunteer for service projects. Ellanora has truly made the most of her college experience.
You might be surprised to learn that Ellanora was diagnosed with dyslexia in the third grade. At Wallace State, she experienced learning support for her differing ability, which she said has been exceptional in providing the necessary support and encouragement to be successful in college.
One of her favorite quotes comes from Albert Einstein, who was also dyslexic. He said, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."
Ellanora plans to continue her education at the University of Alabama where she will major in fashion design and retail. She has already been awarded a 4-year Presidential Scholarship and Housing Scholarship, which together are valued at approximately $55,000, and an additional $10,300 in scholarships through YLDP and other organizations. Congratulations Ellanora.
