Summer Youth Camps Offer Career Exploration, Life Skills

Wallace State's Center for Career and Workforce Development is offering several summer camps for students to explore a number of career options and learn life skills.
HANCEVILLE, Ala. — Wallace State’s Center or Career and Workforce Development is offering several summer camps that will offer students from age 7 to seniors in high school the opportunity to explore skills and trades, learn life skills and more.
Science in the Kitchen
The first event is geared toward budding chefs. The Science in the Kitchen event will offer children ages 7 and up fun, hands-on STEM activities. Through interactive kitchen-based experiments, students will explore basic scientific concepts while creating exciting take-home projects and edible treats in a safe and engaging environment.
The class will be held on Friday, May 29 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Wallace State Workforce Training Center. The cost is $50 and the class is limited to 24 participants. For information, email workforce@wallacestate.edu or call 2566.3.52.7451.
Real World Ready: Life Skill Summer Series
Students entering grades 9-12 can participate in the Real World Ready: Life Skills Summer Series. The four-week series will hold classes on Tuesdays from June 23-July 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The course will offer students interactive activities and real-world simulations geared toward preparing them for life beyond high school.
Topics to be discussed include money management and budgeting, career readiness and employability skills, grocery budgeting and cooking basics and basic car care and home maintenance.

Built Different: Skilled Trades Exploration Camp
Career exploration is the focus of the Built Different: Skilled Trades Exploration Camp to be held July 22-24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., daily, and is offered to students entering seventh through 10th grades.
During the three-day camp, students will learn more about careers in areas such as construction, advanced manufacturing, welding, diesel technology, electronics, HVAC and more. They will be able to participate in hands-on activities, connect with local employers and industry professionals and gain exposure to high-demand career pathways.
The cost of the camp is $150, and spots are limited.
