Wallace State Women Clamp Down Defensively in 63–38 Road Win at Northeast Mississippi
BOONEVILLE, Miss. — Wallace State women's basketball used another dominant defensive performance Tuesday night to pull away for a 63–38 road victory over Northeast Mississippi.
After a slow start that saw the Lions trail 18–15 late in the first quarter, Wallace State quickly seized control early in the second period. The Lions opened the quarter on a 7–0 run and carried that momentum into halftime, taking a 32–24 lead into the break.
Defense continued to set the tone after halftime. Wallace State held Northeast Mississippi to just five points in the third quarter, extending the lead to 49–29 heading into the final period and never allowing the home team to mount a comeback.
Kameron Sanders led the Lions with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and a block. Idaysia Mercer followed with 12 points, six rebounds, six assists and a steal, while Leah Childress added nine points and four assists.
Bailey Tetro finished with eight points, two rebounds and three assists. Taylor Smith contributed seven points, four rebounds and a block, while Sinaya Gibson added six points, five rebounds and a block. Zamyra Goode provided a strong effort on the glass with eight rebounds to go along with five points, two assists and two steals. Hannah Tetro chipped in two points and an assist.
With the win, Wallace State continued its strong stretch of play, relying on balanced scoring and suffocating defense to control the game from the second quarter on.
