The seventh-ranked Wallace State Lions traveled to take on the Northeast Mustangs. The Lions put on a dominating performance in sweeping the doubleheader by scores of 7-2 and 13-1.
The Lions are now 23-6 overall with a conference record of 7-1. The Mustangs are now 12-8 overall and are 3-3 in conference.
Game 1: Wallace State 7, Northeast 2The Lions' Brooklyn Sertell got Wallace State on the board first with a 3-run bomb to center field in the top
of the 1st inning. Northeast then scored a run in both the bottom of the first and
second innings.
Ashlyn Burns led off the top of the third inning with a moonshot to left field to extend the lead
to 4-2.
Blakelyn Austin got the top of the fourth started for Wallace when she hit a homer of her own to center
field. Lexie Kelly then reached home when Burns grounded into a fielder's choice to the Mustangs' shortstop
to push the Lions' lead to 6-2.
Sertell hit her second home run of the game and the fourth overall for the Lions in
the top of the seventh inning to finish off the Mustangs in the first matchup of the
day.
Madeline Howard earned the win inside the circle pitching a complete game, allowing only five hits.
Game 2: Wallace State 13, Northeast 1
Wallace State's Burns doubled in the top of the first inning which batted in Tenayja Thomas.
The Lions got on the board again in the third inning off of a 2 RBI double hit by Charli Kyser to center field, scoring Burns and Brandy Phillips.
The Lions roared in top of the fourth inning, as they racked up nine runs. They quickly
loaded the bases with one out. Reese Decker scored off of a hard grounder hit by Phillips. Kyser walked on a 4-0 count to advance
Thomas to home plate. Sertell was then hit by a pitch to score Burns. Austin singled
to center field to bat in two more runners. Sertell scored on a wild pitch, then Austin
sprinted to home plate right behind her. The onslaught would come to an end as Thomas
doubled on a line drive, scoring two more Wallace State runners.
The Lions would run in one more after Phillips reached home on a groundout to second
base by Sertell.
Ava Smith went on to be the winning pitcher in this matchup, pitching for four innings and striking
out four Mustang batters.

The Wallace State Lions will host the 19-9 Georgia Highlands Chargers from Rome, GA
on Tuesday. The Chargers are 6-2 when playing against Alabama teams this season.
