Wallace State Men and Women Defeat Southern Union on Homecoming Night

Hanceville, Ala. — Both the Wallace State Community College men’sand women’s basketball teams won thrilling victories over Southern Union at the Lions’ Homecoming celebration.

Men defeat Southern Union 92-79

Leading the charge for the Lions was sophomore Antonio Cochran of Columbus, Ga., who scored 19 points and was 4-4 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Arthur Johnson of Carrollton, Ga., followed with 18 points. Sophomore Christian Thompson of Birmingham, double-doubled, earning 15 points and pulling down 19 rebounds. Freshman Josh Paige of Eufaula turned in 14 points and 6 assists, and his brother and fellow freshman Caleb Paige came off the bench to add 11 points.

This win improves Wallace State's record to 22-5 on the season overall and 9-3 in the conference. They are currently ranked No. 1 in Division I in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC).

Kameron Sanders

Lady Lions defeat Southern Union 86-46

The Lady Lions also enjoyed a successful homecoming, defeating Southern Union 86-46. Freshman Kameron Sanders of Birmingham led the team with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Freshman Sinaya Gibson of Tuscaloosa chipped in with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomore Ella Collum of Cullman came off the bench to add 15 points to the scoreboard. Sophomore Nylaa Fuller of Harvest contributed on defense, pulling down 13 rebounds.4

The win boosts the Lady Lions' record to 22-4 for the season overall and 9-3 in the conference. They are currently in second place in Division 1 of the ACCC.

Rooks named Homecoming Queen

During a break of the men’s game, Nyjaa Rooks of Collinsville was crowned the 2025 Homecoming Queen. Fellow members of the Homecoming Court included Michelle Hernandez of Holly Pond, Takiyah Love of Decatur, basketball player Nylaa Fuller of Harvest and Kayle Moore of Wetumpka.
