Wallace State Dominates Southern Union

Hanceville, Ala. – Wallace State Community College delivered a dominant performance
against Southern Union State Community College as the men's and women's teams both
secured wins on the road.
Lady Lions win 89-33
From the opening tip-off, Wallace State set the tone, outscoring Southern Union 23-7
in the first quarter and maintaining relentless defensive pressure throughout the
game. The Lions showcased their offensive prowess, shooting an impressive 45.3 percent
from the field and 43.5 percent from beyond the arc.
Leading the charge was Kallie Tinker, who put on a shooting clinic, draining 10 three-pointers
on her way to a game-high 32 points. Sinaya Gibson controlled the boards with nine
rebounds, while Nylaa Fuller contributed a double-double performance with 13 rebounds
and 4 points. Idaysia Mercer played a key role in facilitating the offense, dishing
out 8 assists.
Defensively, Wallace State stifled Southern Union, holding them to just 22.4 percent
shooting from the field and forcing 16 turnovers. The Lions’ defensive intensity led
to 10 steals and numerous fast-break opportunities.
Men's team wins in thriller
In a fast-paced battle, Wallace State Community College secured a thrilling 100-96
victory over Southern Union State Community College. The Lions overcame a six-point
halftime deficit with a dominant second-half performance, outscoring their opponents
52-42 to seal the win.
Kendarius Anderson led the charge for Wallace State with an electrifying 32-point
performance, sinking seven three-pointers. Kami Young provided a crucial boost, scoring
28 points and converting 14-of-17 free throws. Christian Thompson was a force in the
paint, recording a massive double-double with 18 points and an impressive 24 rebounds.
Despite Southern Union shooting 53.7 percent from the field and putting up a strong
offensive display, Wallace State’s rebounding advantage (42-45) and sharp free-throw
shooting (76.0 percent) proved to be the difference. The Lions capitalized on second-chance
opportunities and made key defensive plays in the final minutes to secure the hard-fought
victory.
