More than 100 student athletes named on ACCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll

Hanceville, AL — More than 100 student athletes from all 12 sports teams at Wallace State Community College were recognized by the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) for academic achievement by being named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2024 semester.

“These student-athletes and teams should be extremely proud of themselves, as they have balanced academics with practice and games,” said Commissioner Dean Myrick. “I am very proud of them, along with the faculty and staff at our amazing colleges for the work they do in preparing our student-athletes for life outside of athletics.”

Additionally, eight Wallace State teams were recognized for collectively achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2023-2024 academic year. They include Men’s Cross Country, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf, Softball, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis and Volleyball.

“Congratulations to all of the students and the teams recognized,” said Vice President for Students Kristen Holmes. “We love to see our athletes excel on the fields and courts on which they play and are exceptionally proud to see their outstanding performance in the classroom.”

Individually, 105 students across 12 teams by achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher to make the honor for the Spring 2024 semester. Students on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll include:

Wallace State athletic teams own nine national championships and approximately 100 conference championships. Numerous student athletes have earned (National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) academic team of the year honors and hundreds have been named Academic All Americans. More than 100 student athletes have transferred to Division I colleges and the college can claim more than 40 professional athletes as alumni, including major league pitchers Craig Kimbrel and Derek Holland, PGA golfers Fredrick Jacobsen and Brett Wetterich and more. Numerous Wallace State coaches have been inducted into NJCAA, ACCC and community halls of fame.
