Wilken, Howard named Athletes of the Week
Hanceville, AL — Two more Wallace State Community College athletes were recognized by the Alabama Community College Conference as Players of the Week. Softball pitcher Alivia Wilken and outfielder McKinnon Howard were each recognized for the week of April 4.
Wilken, a sophomore from New Market and a graduate of Buckhorn High School, was 2-0 for the week, with an ERA of 0.0, 16 strikeouts, and only one walk. She allowed only one hit in 10 innings pitched, including a no-hitter against Northwest Shoals.
Howard, a freshman from Phenix City and a graduate of Central Phenix High School, had a batting average of 688, with 11 hits, seven runs, three RBI, two walks and eight stolen bases.
Wallace State softball is at the top of the leaderboard in the ACCC North division with an overall record of 31-5.
The team’s next games are scheduled for Saturday, with a double header against Marion Military Institute starting at 1 p.m.
Wilken and Howard join WSCC women’s golfer Aidan Haithcock and men’s tennis player Lennert Lemahieu as ACCC Players of the Week for April 4.
