HANCEVILLE, ALA. – Wallace State’s women’s golf team won its second tournament of
the spring this week, earning the rain-shortened Northeast Alabama Invitational, and
sophomore Lauren Cole claimed her second low medalist title this month.
Cole, a Glencoe native, has won five low medalist titles in her Wallace State career,
including two this spring.
Cole shot a 5-over par 77 in the opening round at Goose Pond and had a 38 through
nine holes during the second round, which was cut short because of rain.
“Lauren Cole is an invaluable part of our team and a true leader. She came to us a
good golfer and has developed into a great golfer. She constantly works on her swing
and is among the hardest workers I’ve coached, either men or women,” said Wallace
State women’s coach J.J. Adams. “Lauren’s also a great person and on the President’s
List each semester.”
Wallace State freshman Abigail Baker was an All-Tournament selection, finishing tied
for third with a 12-over 88.
Hannah Sanders placed fifth overall for the Lady Lions, and Carly Havens was tied
for ninth.
Wallace State will host its annual spring invitational at Cross Creek Golf Course
on April 5-6.
The Wallace State men’s golf team is currently ranked 16th in the nation and competes in the Calhoun Invitational next week.
